Two Chinese Companies Decide to Join HD DVD Camp
October 05, 2005
According to a report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun on September 30, the Chinese companies Amoi Electronics from Fujian Province and Changhong Electric from Sichuan Province have announced plans to manufacture HD DVD players in the coming years. Amoi, which intends to bring such a player to the market in 2007, based its decision on the fact that HD DVD is more compatible with existing DVDs, while Changhong, aiming for a launch date in 2006 at the earliest, highly regarded the fact that the HD DVD format is already widely recognized internationally. Both companies also announced that they intend to join the industry association DVD Forum, which recognizes the HD DVD format. Furthermore, the two companies' decision might have an influence on China's own next-generation DVD format, which it is trying to develop.
